Facelift in NYC

Overview

A facelift (rhytidectomy) addresses the visible signs of facial aging — sagging skin, deep nasolabial folds, jowls along the jawline, and loose neck skin — by repositioning the underlying muscle and tissue, not just pulling the skin tight. The result Dr. Zweifler aims for is a natural refresh: a more defined jawline and smoother neck that still look like you, only rested.

Am I a Candidate?

Facelift candidates are typically in their late 40s through 60s or beyond, in good general health, with realistic expectations about what surgery can and can’t change. Patients earlier in the aging process, or those primarily concerned with fine lines rather than sagging, may be better served by non-surgical options like Sofwave or injectables — Dr. Zweifler will help you figure out which category you fall into.

The Procedure

Incisions are hidden within the natural contours around and behind the ear, extending into the hairline as needed. Through these incisions, the underlying facial muscle and connective tissue (the SMAS layer) is lifted and tightened, excess skin is removed, and fat may be repositioned or grafted for added volume. Liposuction beneath the chin is frequently performed at the same time to sharpen the jawline. Facelifts are usually performed under general or local anesthesia with sedation and may be combined with eyelid surgery or fat grafting for a more comprehensive result.

Recovery & Results

Expect swelling and bruising for the first one to two weeks, with most patients comfortable returning to work and light social activity around the two- to three-week mark once makeup can camouflage residual bruising. Drains, if used, are typically removed within a day or two. Strenuous exercise is usually restricted for about four weeks. Incision lines continue to fade over several months to a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a facelift last?

A facelift resets the visible signs of aging but doesn’t stop the aging process — most patients enjoy their results for around 10 years, with normal aging continuing afterward.

Will people be able to tell I had surgery?

Well-healed incisions are hidden in the natural creases around the ear and hairline; the goal is a result that reads as ‘well-rested,’ not ‘done.’
