Breast Augmentation in NYC
Dr. Michelle Zweifler is a board-certified plastic surgeon with an office on Park Avenue in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, welcoming patients from across New York City.
Overview
Breast augmentation increases breast volume and improves fullness and projection using saline or silicone gel implants — or, for a more modest, natural enhancement, a patient’s own fat. It’s one of the most customizable procedures Dr. Zweifler performs, with implant size, shape, and placement all tailored to each patient’s anatomy and goals.
Am I a Candidate?
Good candidates are patients seeking more volume, better symmetry, or restored fullness after pregnancy or weight loss, who are in good general health with realistic expectations. Patients with significant sagging in addition to volume loss may be better served by combining augmentation with a breast lift — Dr. Zweifler will assess this at consultation.
The Procedure
Implants can be placed through several incision options — around the areola, in the fold beneath the breast, under the arm, or, less commonly, through the navel — and positioned either under the chest muscle (submuscular) or above it (subglandular), depending on your anatomy and the look you’re after. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient surgery.
Recovery & Results
Most patients take about a week off work, with soreness and swelling gradually improving over the first two weeks. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are usually restricted for four to six weeks. Implants settle into their final position over one to three months.
Frequently Asked Questions
Saline or silicone — which is right for me?
Both are FDA-approved and safe; silicone gel tends to feel more natural, while saline implants use a smaller incision and allow for size adjustment during surgery. Dr. Zweifler will walk through the tradeoffs based on your body type and goals.
Will I need a breast lift too?
If there’s noticeable sagging along with the volume you want to add, a lift performed at the same time as augmentation often gives a better result than implants alone.
Where are breast implant incisions placed?
Implants can be placed through incisions around the areola, in the fold beneath the breast, under the arm, or, less commonly, through the navel. Dr. Zweifler will recommend the best option for your anatomy and the implant you choose.
Can breast augmentation be combined with a breast lift?
Yes. Patients with significant sagging in addition to volume loss may be better served by combining augmentation with a breast lift, and Dr. Zweifler will assess this at your consultation.
Can breast augmentation be done without implants?
Yes. For a more modest, natural enhancement, breast augmentation can be performed using a patient’s own fat (fat grafting) instead of implants.
