Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) in NYC

Overview

An arm lift tightens and smooths loose, drooping skin on the upper arms — often called ‘bat wings’ — that can result from aging, weight loss, or genetics and typically doesn’t respond to exercise alone. Liposuction can be performed at the same time for additional contouring, or on its own for patients with good skin elasticity and primarily excess fat.

Am I a Candidate?

Good candidates are bothered by sagging, loose upper arm skin, are at a stable weight, and understand that improved arm shape comes with a trade-off: a scar along the inner arm or in the armpit.

The Procedure

Incision length and placement depend on how much excess skin needs to be removed — some patients need only a shorter scar hidden in the armpit, while more significant sagging requires an incision extending further down the arm. Excess skin is removed and the remaining tissue is tightened. This is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.

Recovery & Results

Most patients take one to two weeks off work, wearing a compression garment to support healing and reduce swelling. Arm elevation is important in the early postop period. Arm movement is generally restricted from strenuous activity for about four weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have a visible scar?

Yes — the trade-off for tighter skin is a scar along the arm, which Dr. Zweifler will discuss honestly during consultation, including how to minimize its visibility.

Can this be combined with liposuction?

Often, yes — liposuction is frequently performed at the same time to further refine arm contour.
